The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elepahnt book series by Marci & Elle Fair

http://www.marcifair.com/#!ellies-adventures/c2157

"The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant - Ellie Makes A New Friend”

Mom's Choice Gold Award Winner! A beautiful blend of real life and make-believe, The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant series recounts the everyday life of a stuffed animal. The debut book, Ellie Makes a New Friend, follows the plush elephant as she moves to a new neighborhood and has to find a new playmate.

Written and photographed by mother Marci Fair and her ten-year-old daughter Elle Fair, the story is uniquely illustrated with delightful photos of the little elephant’s journeys through the neighborhood as she tries to settle into her new home. Children will love seeing a toy living in a real-world setting, and parents and teachers will appreciate Ellie’s positive and creative approach to finding answers to her problems.
Fun, playful, and packed with imagination, you won’t want to miss the upcoming adventures of Ellie—and her new friend!

 Ellie Makes A New Friend

"The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant - Ellie’s First Plane Ride”
fair release
Mother-daughter duo Marci Fair and Elle Fair have coauthored a series of books about eleven-year-old Elle’s two favorite stuffed animals, Ellie the Elephant and Pudgy the Penguin. Even as a working mother of four, Marci has always made time to read bedtime stories to her kids and encouraged them to read on their own, as well. A big fan of both books and stuffed animals, Elle enjoys working on this special project with her mom. They are delighted that their first book “Ellie Makes A New Friend” has already won a Gold Mom’s Choice award.
Always on the lookout for a new adventure, Ellie the Elephant can hardly believe her good fortune when she gets to go on her first plane ride and visit her faraway relatives. The only thing that could make this trip better is sharing it with a friend, so Ellie invites Pudgy the Penguin to join her.
The newest book in The Amazing Adventures of Ellie the Elephant series, Ellie’s First Plane Ride follows the two plush toys as they navigate the airport, experience flight for the first time, revel in hotel luxury, and face the daunting task of finding their way through a massive zoo in search of Ellie’s real-life elephant relatives.
The Ellie books are books that come alive with pictures.  They are books that children are going to relate to because they are written by a 10 year old girl and her mother.  Easy to read in every way.  Children will fall in love with Ellie, the elephant, and her friends as they flip through these adventure books.  Most of the pictures in these books are regular photo type pictures that give the books a scrapbook effect memory of their adventure.  Ellie and her friends are stuffed animals and they are in each photo.  These books are well thought out and very nicely done.   I'm looking forward to reading more of Ellie's adventures and meeting new friends that Ellie has.

The Treasure at Devil’s Hole by Jody Mabry

PUYB Inside the Book

The Treasure at Devil's Hole 3Title: The Treasure at Devil’s Hole
Author: Jody Mabry
Publisher: Maybury and Gilliam Literary
Pages: 220
Genre: Middle Grade Children’s
Format: Paperback/Kindle
How would you feel if you knew you had a legendary treasure right in your own back yard? Francis “Bug” Mosser knows, and will do nearly anything to find it, even if it means defying the most villainous person he knows—Mom!
Standing in Bug’s way is his nemesis Tad Pricket, the red headed, pock-holed bully who’s suddenly been seen walking Bug’s girl, Melanie, home from school—worse, the walk ends with a kiss. Then there is the mysterious bald stranger and Miss Julia Brandon’s boyfriend who seems a little “too-classy” for the town of Possum Trot.
With the help of his brothers, and best friend Billy—along with his not-so-secret desire to impress Melanie Grainger—Bug goes off in search of fortune and glory, thwarting bad guys, stolen clothes, and explosions to find the one surprise about the treasure that he would have never dreamed of…
“Jody M. Mabry’s “The Treasure at Devil’s Hole” is a refreshing return to classic adventure, a genuine stand-out among modern YA fare. It calls to mind works such as “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer,” right down to the requisite treasure hunting, villains, expansive caverns, complicated young love, and rule-breaking exploits intelligent, free-spirited boys simply can’t resist. Well written and wonderfully paced, it keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, with a clever resolution you never saw coming. I found this to be a delightful read, and in fact completed the book in one sitting, unable to put it down. Looking forward to Mabry’s next work, I hope one is in the works.” – Amazon reviewer

I enjoyed reading this adventure with Bug and his gang as they do want all boys like to do.  A beautiful summer read-along that I just might have to share with the students I will have in my summer school class.  The author keeps you on your toes and wanting for more.  There are so many places to stop and wonder and let the students want to return to the book.  If there was one thing I would change about the book would be some of the words.  I do not use curse/slang word; however, there were a few sprinkled throughout the 213 pages of the book.  (See my view on words here.)  It wasn't bad and much, but if you want a book with none then I must make you aware they are there.  The Treasure of Devil's Hole will capture almost any middle school aged, adventurous student.  It's a book you are bound to get lost in.

PUYB Meet the Author

Jody MabryBorn at Great Lakes Naval Base in Illinois, Jody has had the opportunity to live in places such as Cuba, St. Croix USVI, Mississippi, Illinois, and Kenosha, Wisconsin, where he spent the teen years of his life in an 1800’s farmhouse that was, of course, haunted. At fourteen Jody first heard the story of Arizona’s “Lost Dutchman Mine,” sparking an interest in adventure, ghost towns, and lost treasure. Always prone to telling a good story, Jody now passes on the tradition to his children who will no doubt find their own treasure someday. Jody and his family live in the charming Linden Hills neighborhood of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
His lastest book is the middle grade novel, The Treasure at Devil’s Hole.

E.S. Pete: Sixth Grade Sense is about the perils of a paranormal preteen.

Pete knew there would be a lot more homework in Sixth Grade, but he didn't plan on the reading list including the minds of his teachers and classmates. Knowing what they think can be helpful sometimes, but it also gets complicated -- ESPecially when Pete thinks the substitute teacher is planning a big robbery.

Oh, I loved reading this book.  However, since I work in a school setting I'm finding that they are becoming more and more sensitive to stories written about booms and shootings.  In this book these are the robbers two arms of defense.  I found the story good, but any talk of guns and things in schools isn't permitted these days.  I think before I put this in my classroom library I'll have to get it approved because of this one scene toward the end of the book.   Also I did notice about 4 or 5 times through out book the author used curse words.  (see my view of word choices here.)

Finishes and Starts.....

http://sugarlanequilts.blogspot.com/

Well for May's FNSi I was able to get two projects completed and one started. It is always a good feeling to get projects done.  My completed projects were....

A bag I started making for my mom back in March I believe.  I ran out of hot pink thread last month so had to finish sewing the handles down.  It is now completed.  Ready to ship.  Not in time for Mother's Day, but almost.

Then I got my sewing machine cover completed.  I've been working on it for quite some time now.  I had to put on the bottom cream flowered fabric piece and bottom eyelet layer.

Now I'm starting a walker bag for my dad.  This is my own made up in my mind pattern.  My mom requested a bag with three pockets that qt. size jars will fit in.  So hopefully this turns out ok.  He has two that are just basket type all one compartment.  So I started cutting last night.....

Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
The Wood's Edge
WaterBrook Press (April 21, 2015)
by
Lori Benton

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

Lori Benton spent her late teens and early twenties pursuing a career as a wildlife artist, attending the Maryland College of Art & Design before she began painting professionally. When not writing or researching, Lori can be found exploring the mountains of southern Oregon with her husband, Brian. Lori's first novel, Burning Sky was nominated as an ECPA 2014 Christian Book Award Finalist and also received double nominations for 2014 Christy Awards. The Pursuit of Tamsen Littlejohn is her second novel.

ABOUT THE BOOK

At the wood’s edge cultures collide. Can two families survive the impact?

The 1757 New York frontier is home to the Oneida tribe and to British colonists, yet their feet rarely walk the same paths.

On the day Fort William Henry falls, Major Reginald Aubrey is beside himself with grief. His son, born that day, has died in the arms of his sleeping wife. When Reginald comes across an Oneida mother with newborn twins, one white, one brown, he makes a choice that will haunt the lives of all involved. He steals the white baby and leaves his own child behind. Reginald’s wife and foundling daughter, Anna, never suspect the truth about the boy they call William, but Reginald is wracked by regret that only intensifies with time, as his secret spreads its devastating ripples.

When the long buried truth comes to light, can an unlikely friendship forged at the wood’s edge provide a way forward? For a father tormented by fear of judgment, another by lust for vengeance. For a mother still grieving her lost child. For a brother who feels his twin’s absence, another unaware of his twin’s existence. And for Anna, who loves them both—Two Hawks, the mysterious Oneida boy she meets in secret, and William, her brother. As paths long divided collide, how will God direct the feet of those who follow Him?

Buzz About Book 1

"The Age of Akra is a riveting, well-written, and imaginative story featuring an intricate plot and stellar cast of characters that is sure to be thoroughly enjoyed by tweens, teens, and even adults who love a great science fiction tale. This is a real page-turner and I highly recommend this book to children aged 10 and older. I just loved it and to think the author has seven books planned for the series ... I'm salivating." ~ Renee, Mother Daughter Book Reviews

"What an imagination!! Absolutely fabulous. What a great read. The characters came to life so easily. Their physical descriptions have me a visual idea but their personalities evolved and developed quickly so they were my friends and heroes before very long. I cried when Mia was selected and was on the edge of my seat when it looked like Long wouldn't make it. I couldn't put it down. A very clever story with wonderful likable characters in amazing places with fascinating skills and weird animals. I went through a range is emotions with these characters where I wanted to hug them, love them, give them a good slap, protect and spend time with. I cannot wait for book 2. Highly recommend this series of books and hope they make a movie from it would be a blockbuster!!!" ~ 5 Star Review, Dannielle S., Goodreads

"Masterfully told from different viewpoints, Starchild is neither a "boy" nor "girl" book, but rather an everyone book. Struggling readers will enjoy the simple truths of the characters, and more advanced readers will delight in the journey of Mai, Long, and Akra. A journey that introduces multifaceted characters, whom I hope will make an appearance in subsequent titles in The Starchild Series, because I'm already attached to them. Even the slightest of creatures was placed in Starchild with the greatest of skill, care, and thought. Outstanding job, Ms. Taylor, and I look forward to continuing my journey through the series." ~ 5 Star Review, C. Bullard, Amazon

Buzz About Book 2

"The City of Souls is the second book in a science fiction fantasy featuring an intricate and engaging plot, well-developed characters who are faced with new challenges, a well-described setting reminiscent of Star Wars with a hint of Lord of the Rings and Indiana Jones-style action and suspense. I’m in this series for the whole haul as I feel completely invested in what happens next as the prophecy continues to roll forward. I highly recommend this book as well as the series to science fiction aficionados ages 10 years and older looking for something a little different. ~ Renee, Mother Daughter Book Reviews

"The author graciously sent a signed copy of this 2nd book in her series to my daughter Emily. Emily read Vacen Taylor's first book in the Starchild series: The Age of Akra. She very much enjoyed the adventure and getting to know the characters. Emily eagerly anticipated the next book! Emily was thrilled when her copy of The City of Souls arrived and did what she could do to avoid her homework so that she could sneak and read The City of Souls. She read the book with much interest and said that she loved every bit of it. As a parent, it's a big comfort and joy to me when my kids find stories written for their enjoyment! The Starchild series captured the heart and imagination of my daughter. And she very much looks forward to book three." ~ 5 Star Review, Vonda N., Goodreads

"Ms Taylor provides masterful descriptions that don't bore the reader. Thank you. I think the writing is at its best in the action, but the character building, backstory and forewarning is all there and relevant to the overall building of good storytelling. I'm assuming the introductions to some of the other multifaceted characters will have relevance in future books. I do hope so. Overall, a great read for children who are looking for something refreshingly new and unique." ~ 5 Star Review, Kirt T., Amazon

You couldn't ask for a cuter book.  Rachel's Day in the Garden will delight your preschooler and motivate them to do the yoga moves along with Rachel.  The pictures are eye appealing and very colorful.  First graders will even love the thought that they could read this book on their own.  I loved the little icon on the page of Rachel showing the pose as well as the highlighted key word for the pose.  The chart list in the back of the book with the pose, key word and picture is an excellent reference tool.  There is also a parent/teacher's guide with tips.  I will be using Rachel's poses in my classroom.  This book will be kept at my finger tips.
