"The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear? the Lord is the strength of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?"-Psalm 27:1

"The Lord is my light and my salvation." Here is personal interest, "my light," "my salvation"; the soul is assured of it, and therefore declares it boldly. Into the soul at the new birth divine light is poured as the precursor of salvation; where there is not enough light to reveal our own darkness and to make us long for the Lord Jesus, there is no evidence of salvation. After conversion our God is our joy, comfort, guide, teacher, and in every sense our light: He is light within, light around, light reflected from us, and light to be revealed to us. Note, it is not said merely that the Lord gives light, but that He is light; nor that He gives salvation, but that He is salvation; he, then, who by faith has laid hold upon God, has all covenant blessings in his possession. This being made sure as a fact, the argument drawn from it is put in the form of a question, "Whom shall I fear?" A question which is its own answer. The powers of darkness are not to be feared, for the Lord, our light, destroys them; and the damnation of hell is not to be dreaded by us, for the Lord is our salvation. This is a very different challenge from that of boastful Goliath, for it rests, not upon the conceited vigour of an arm of flesh, but upon the real power of the omnipotent I AM. "The Lord is the strength of my life." Here is a third glowing epithet, to show that the writer's hope was fastened with a threefold cord which could not be broken. We may well accumulate terms of praise where the Lord lavishes deeds of grace. Our life derives all its strength from God; and if He deigns to make us strong, we cannot be weakened by all the machinations of the adversary. "Of whom shall I be afraid?" The bold question looks into the future as well as the present. "If God be for us," who can be against us, either now or in time to come?

It's all about Fashion....

ok since I'm gone right now, I thought I'd post some links to some articles I've seen about fashion, style and modesty.  I came across these and thought they were worth passing along....

From Susie QT Pies Scraps of Life

Here are some of our tips that allow my teens to be fashionable on a budget!

1) Swap- Teens are great at swapping with friends! Need a prom dress? Ask an older classmate to let you wear one of her older dresses! Need prom shoes? Ask another friend! One of my girls did this just this year. They were also given dresses from a few older teens..... (read rest of article here.)

Fashion and Modesty
As a young lady who wears modest clothing all the time, I am a big advocate of being fashionable and still modest. I mean, really, who wants to be modest and yet look dowdy or frumpy? Not me, that's for sure! So, below are some tips I have found useful in the past and still use today. Check them out!

1.Pair Cotton Shirts and Skirts.
I love the cotton t-shirts that are light, airy and yet fashionable. You can get a shirt with pretty much any statement on it or design. Pair this with a light cotton skirt. I like the maxi tiered skirts and love wearing one with a t-shirt on top.....(read rest of article here)

What the Scriptures teach about modesty

An honest and open talk about modesty must begin with the Bible. As Christians, the Bible is our ultimate authority for what we say, how we dress, how we act, and how we live our lives. It doesn’t matter what I have to say on the subject or what the world has to say. Ultimately, the only truth in this world is what Scripture teaches, and its teachings are all we need to run our lives.
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. ~2 Timothy 3:16
God’s word is truth. He gave us His holy word so that we could learn how to live lives for Him. By reading and studying God’s word, the man (or woman) of God may be complete, and ready to handle EVERY good work. Scripture is sufficient to teach us all that we need to know about living a Christian life, parenting, work, ethics, morals, and yes, even how to dress. We must first know and grasp that before we can delve into how the Bible handles modesty and dress....(read rest of article here)

A Style of Her Own

How do you let go of the style reigns and help your daughter create a sense of style all her own?

Here are a few tips:

1.  What makes her smile?  Watch her, study her, wait for those moments when her eyes sparkle and the corners of her mouth turn up as her eyes alight on something she considers beautiful.  What are her favorite colors?  Does she likes polka-dots or stripes?  Does she like things that sparkle or more subdued colors?  Are her tastes fancy or girl-next-doorish?(read complete article here)
