Classy shoe
By apple blossom from Grand Forks, ND on 10/27/2010
3out of 5
Sizing: Feels half size too big
Width: Feels true to width
Pros: Comfortable, Stylish
Cons: Slightly big
Best Uses: Going Out, Church, Office, Formal Occasions
Describe Yourself: Comfort-oriented, Practical
I am generally not real up on square toed shoes, but these proved to be very nice looking and not as gaudy as others. Was a little disappointed in the true fit as I feel they are about a half size too big. The shoes these were to replace were a 9.5 these a 9 and slightly big. I feel the shoe runs little big.

APPLE-ing WEEK

Oct is national apple month.  Do you have an apple recipe you'd like to share???  Use MR. Linky or leave a comment.

It's time to post something here...  I've been AWAL for some time.  Life just seems to be marching on without me at times, I think.  So what have I been up too here lately.  Well I'll show you.....

Not just one bag of apples... but 6. Yep that's right.  I've been canning apples...  It all started two Saturdays ago with the....

Picking process. Yep, I hand picked about 65 lbsl of apples.  However, mine were FREE.  That's the way to go.  I guess I knew the right person.

Then last week I spent the week with my apples....

Canning and freezing them and of course making some yummy surprises for my family....

Here are some of the yummy things I made...

   Grandma's Apple Cake
I found the recipe from Tina @ Moms Crazy Cooking
it was oh so yummy and moist.  the picture looked moist, but after getting the recipe put together I had my doubts, but something must have happened in the baking process.  It was very moist.  My family loved it.

yep, dessert apple pizza.  this was a made up recipe in my own head.  Turned out pretty good.
Maybe sometime I'll post the recipe.

apple gram cracker pudding.  Recipe for another time... also.

I think they liked my apple pie filling that I made. And that is the recipe that I'm going to share this week. I canned 12 quarts of this pie filling plus used extra filling to make one pie. So 13 quarts of pie filling was made last week.

This recipe was taken from 1989 edition of the big fat red juicy Apple Cook Book by Judith Ann Bosley

Homemade Canned Apple Pie Filling

ingredients:
1 grocery sackful of apples (Ida Read is the author's preference), peeled, cored and sliced for pie
(do all the peeling at time)

filling ingredients: (makes enough for about 6-7 quarts of pie filling.  One quart of pie filling fills a nine inch pie shell nicely)
10 cups water
5 cups white sugar
1 cup cornstarch
5 teaspoons cinnamon
2 Tablespoons lemon juice

Wash and scaled quart jars (or let your dishwasher do it for you).

Fill jars full of apple slices.

In large, heavy duty saucepan, Combine filling ingredients and bring to a boil.

Pour syrup to tops of jars.  This is somewhat tricky since the syrup is very thick.  I used a wooden spoon handle to help with this process.  As the syrup needs to fill every space that the apples don't.  I burped it (if you do canning I'm sure you know what I mean by that) often.

Seal jars and process for 20 minutes in a hot water bath.

Now you have it.  It really is pretty easy.  And very yummy pie filling.

Lydia’s Charm by Wanda E. Brunstetter

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
Lydia's Charm
Barbour Books (September 1, 2010)
by
Wanda E. Brunstetter

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

A Note From Wanda:
Ever since I was a child, I wanted to be a writer. When I was in the second grade, I wrote my first poem about a moth. Luckily, I received encouragement from my teacher. During my teen years, I wrote skits that my church teen group performed during special holidays.

It wasn’t until 1980, that I took a course on writing for children and teenagers. I became serious about a career as an author. Soon after that, I began to write stories, articles, poems, and devotionals, which appeared in a variety of Christian publications. Later, I had 5 books of puppet/ventriloquist scripts published. *These books are currently available by contacting me. (wanda@wandabrunstetter.com)

My first novel was released by Barbour Publishing’s book club, Heartsong Presents, in Dec. 1997. I have now written nearly fifty books, with over 4 million books in print. Many of the novels I've written are Amish-themed.

ABOUT THE BOOK

Widowed and jobless, Lydia King moves her son and herself to Charm, Ohio, to be close to her mother and help with her grandfather. Menno Troyer, a furniture store owner, is also recently widowed and the father of four energetic boys.

Levi Stutzman, another newcomer to the area, is the only one in his family not handicapped by dwarfism and has dedicated his life to caring for them. As fall colors the countryside, will anonymous gifts left for Lydia bring her hope for a new life and romance, or will another tragedy flood her with infinite despair?

Book Blog Hop ~ Oct. 22, 2010

Happy Friday Friends! I'm very glad that the weekend is finally here. Maybe I can get caught up on my posts. If you are new to Teresa's Reading Corner please take a moment to look around. I review a variety of genres including both historical and contemporary fiction. I occasionally review children's books with my little monkey. Take a moment to introduce yourself so that I may stop by and say hello as well.

The Book Blogger Hop is hosted by Jennifer at Crazy for Books. Its a simple but fantastic concept. As a blogger we write a post for visitors to say hello on. Once we've done that we head over to Crazy for Books and add the link to our post to the Mr. Linky. Final Step, visit some of the other hoppers and say hello.

Each week Jennifer poses a new question so we can get to know one another a little better. This weeks question is:

"Where is your favorite place to read? Curled up on the sofa, in bed, in the garden?"

My favorite reading spot is my recliner with a blanket throw or in the winter snuggled in my snuggy wrap.

How about you???

Don't forget last day to enter my book drawing that I have going on.  Click here for details.

Aloha Friday ~ Oct. 22, 2010

Two different questions to think about on this Aloha Friday.

Questions #1
Do you like to fly on airplanes?

Yes, I love to fly.  It is so much quicker.  Get to spend more time where you're going with less travel time.

Question #2
What bones {if any} have you broken?

Officially, none, but I believe I've broken a baby (favorite) toe before.  Never went to doctor because they can't do anything about a broken toe anyway.

While We're Far Apart by Lynn Austin

This week, the
Christian Fiction Blog Alliance
is introducing
While We're Far Apart
Bethany House (October 1, 2010)
by
Lynn Austin

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

It was during the long Canadian winters at home with her children that Lynn made progress on her dream to write, carving out a few hours of writing time each day while her children napped. Lynn credits her early experience of learning to write amid the chaos of family life for her ability to be a productive writer while making sure her family remains her top priority.

Along with reading, two of Lynn's lifelong passions are history and archaeology. While researching her Biblical fiction series, Chronicles of the Kings, these two interests led her to pursue graduate studies in Biblical Backgrounds and Archaeology through Southwestern Theological Seminary. She and her son traveled to Israel during the summer of 1989 to take part in an archaeological dig at the ancient city of Timnah. This experience contributed to the inspiration for her novel Wings of Refuge.

Lynn resigned from teaching to write full-time in 1992. Since then she has published twelve novels. Five of her historical novels, Hidden Places, Candle in the Darkness, Fire by Night, A Proper Pursuit, and Until We Reach Home have won Christy Awards in 2002, 2003, 2004, 2008, and 2009 for excellence in Christian Fiction. Fire by Night was also one of only five inspirational fiction books chosen by Library Journal for their top picks of 2003, and All She Ever Wanted was chosen as one of the five inspirational top picks of 2005. Lynn's novel Hidden Places has been made into a movie for the Hallmark Channel, starring actress Shirley Jones. Ms Jones received a 2006 Emmy Award nomination for her portrayal of Aunt Batty in the film.

ABOUT THE BOOK

In an unassuming apartment building in Brooklyn, New York, three lives intersect as the reality of war invades each aspect of their lives. Young Esther is heartbroken when her father decides to enlist in the army shortly after the death of her mother.

Penny Goodrich has been in love with Eddie Shaffer for as long as she can remember; now that Eddie's wife is dead, Penny feels she has been given a second chance and offers to care for his children in the hope that he will finally notice her and marry her after the war.

And elderly Mr. Mendel, the landlord, waits for the war to end to hear what has happened to his son trapped in war-torn Hungary. But during the long, endless wait for victory overseas, life on the home front will go from bad to worse.

Yet these characters will find themselves growing and changing in ways they never expected--and ultimately discovering truths about God's love...even when He is silent.

sewing Report

Before we get started with things accomplished at the sew-in thought I'd share some pictures of fabric I found at the second hand for my stash....

patriotic

AHH! Christmas

4 misc.  cute cat and spring bunnies

And not for the sew-in
We had to have fall time snack while doing our FNS-i.  So this is what dd and I settled on....
Check list of things we can work on:
  • Patriotic quilt squares
  • flannel quilt squares
  • finish making tier skirt (partially worked on~  I cut out a tier, but with only 1 sewing machine I didn't get much sewed as DD was using the machine. So the skirt didn't get finished the tiers are cut now.)
  • work on journal cover for Grandma that was started (see pictures below.  Project completed start to finish.  1 Christmas gift down!
  • design cross-stitch that Grandma has requested (Since I couldn't I looked through cross-stitch books for a pattern and ideas so this one was partially accomplished too)
  • make cross-stitch to add to Grandma's already made arrangement.
The lay out of Grandma's journal
